Nowadays, more than ever before, most people's dreams of a 'Golden Age' of retirement after working their guts out for 40 years (or more) is becoming more and more unattainable. The days of selling up your property and buying something smaller and living off the equity release seems to be a thing of the past, as property values tumble to more realistic levels.

Job security these days, even in industries where before this current economic meltdown started, such as banking, has become a thing of the past. Anyone who buries their heads in the sand and trying to ignore this scenario are only fooling themselves.

Trying to start your own 'bricks and mortar' company, or expand an existing one is made very difficult these days, due to the reluctance of the banks to lend any serious levels of investment.

According to experts like Robert Kyosaki, there are only 4 main ways of creating wealth:

1. Working for somebody

2. Investing in property or stocks and shares

3. Starting your own bricks an mortar business

4. Get into network marketing.

Well, the first three seem to be pretty poor at creating any decent or long term levels of wealth any more, so why not take a look at network marketing?

To many people, network marketing conjures up visions of illegal pyramid schemes, or schemes whereby only the people at the top actually make any money. This may have been so in the past, before Government regulation was introduced to try and remove the illegal practices. Indeed, millions of people now make a very comfortable living out of the 'Direct Selling' industry, which has become a very respectable way of creating wealth.

Indeed, many of us who have 'jobs' are probably involved in an awful structure called a 'Corporate Pyramid'. Is there any likelihood of a bank teller ever earning the same or more than the Chairman of a High Street bank? No!

In network marketing, there is nothing to stop people at the bottom of the tree earning far more than people above them.

Where people do seem to make money out of this, others seem to look down their noses at these successful people, as the only qualifications needed are those of having 'people skills'. But unlike the 'corporate' world, where you may have to work hard at education for 4 or more years, then work for another 40 (assuming you don't get made redundant, or have to retrain for another industry) until you retire, with network marketing, you can usually create a substantial residual income for yourself within 4 years - and you can also do this on a part time basis.

But here's the rub. Like everything else in life, if you want to achieve your dreams, they don't just get handed to you on a plate. (Unless you are one in 14 million or so who happens to win the Lottery).

Getting involved in your own business, which happens to be a network marketing variety, is going to need a commitment of your time, and also a certain level of investment.

If you were to consider a franchise - say in a certain hamburger joint - your up front investment could be anywhere up to half a million pounds, and then you may have to work for several years before you started seeing any decent returns. Well, as you have already seen, getting that level of investment from your local 'friendly' bank may well prove a little difficult.

The beauty of a franchise is that everything you need to do, all the marketing stuff, the images, the style of operating, the training, is all provided for you, so you know that if you follow the system, you will get the anticipated returns. A lot of the risk has been taken out of that startup situation. Your investment of say half a million will then start to work for you. However, these may not start to happen until after a few years or so.

Interesting...

Now look at one of the more popular network marketing businesses, especially one in the up and coming 'wellness' marketplace, where it is anticipated that this will grow to be the next Trillion Dollar industry.

Everything you need to do, all the marketing stuff, the images, the style of operating, the training, is all provided for you, so you know that if you follow the system, you will get the anticipated returns. A lot of the risk has been taken out of that startup situation. Unlike a franchise however, you will not have to do this full-time, and your commitment in the first 12 months will probably be less than £3,000. And even this can be spread as a monthly commitment of under £250 plus some of your time. Also, play your cards right, and this investment will probably not be needed for more than three months, before it starts to generate its own income.

Seems a lot better, and a darned sight less risky, than a Franchise...

Of course, you have got to try and select the right opportunity, and there are a number of pointers to help you make the correct, lowest-risk highest gain opportunity.

1. Don't get in too early - many direct selling opportunities crash within 2 - 3 years.

2. Don't get in too late - most opportunities are over 20 years old, and can lack excitement.

3. Look for an opportunity already established in another country. Then the chance of a high payoff will be significantly greater.

4. Look for credibility like -

a. Does the company have a presence in the prestigious Inc 500 magazine (America's Top 500 private companies)?

b. Has it achieved substantial turnover yet (in excess of a Billion)?

c. Has its management been praised by independent firms such as Ernst & Young?

d. How many people in that opportunity appear in a table of the Top 100 Networking Earners?

e. Has the opportunity already created any new millionaires?

f. Does the opportunity have a product that basically sells itself?

g. Is there a charitable cause behind the company or a benefit to the world in general from being involved in this opportunity?

If the answer us YES to all of the above then the odds are that you have identified an opportunity that is going to enable you to meet your wildest dreams.

Don't think it will all be just plain sailing, as it won't, but if you have a dream that means enough to you, then you owe it to yourself to create your future now - forget any job security issues, or potential pension plans - the future will be in YOUR hands...
